The Montana Department of Commerce is now accepting applications for the Indian Equity Fund Small Business Grants. The grant is an excellent opportunity for both current and perspective small business owners because the grant funding can be used to start or expand businesses. Grant applicants can apply for as much as $14,000 in funding for their business but the amount requested must be matched by cash, loan, inventory or equipment currently held by the business. Grant applicants must also be enrolled, tribal members in order to apply.
There is a total of $40,000 in grant funds available for the Blackfeet
Reservation. Applications are reviewed by a committee at the end of each month locally and then sent on to the state review committee for final
approval. Interested applicants are encouraged to start the application process as soon as possible because grants are awarded at the end of each month’s review process only until the $40,000 grant fund is exhausted. Native American Community Development Corporation (NACDC) is offering technical assistance with the application process. Details and application available at http://entrepreneur.mt.gov/indianequityfund.mcpx Applications can also be submitted online at http://businessresources.mt.gov/ONAD.
For more information, please call NACDC at 338-2992 and ask for Matt Harrington.
